The Polluted Heart

People have routines, we are creatures of habit. As a young believer my pastor taught us to read the Bible the first thing in the morning. Never having read the Bible, it was a curious challenge that was accepted. As The Bible became more and more familiar most of my questions were answered and I could give chapter and verse. Then, The Bible was put aside for a long number of years. My pat answers held.

Then one day correct doctrine was not enough, a fresh anointing of The Sprit was needed. A relationship not a debate was needed.

It was hard to go back to my previous habit of reading. Basketball with my friends took the awakening morning hours and then the voices of the world started drowning out the soft intimate voice that was trying to refresh me.

Matthew is one of my favorite books and the readings began reading. The verse for today is in random order but it hit me like a ton of bricks. Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said, do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Scripture usually has a surface meaning but then it has a personal meaning. The surface meaning here is obvious but the non verbal to me was: “George, you have a polluted heart, the things of this world had distracted you from “Hungering and seeking after righteous….”

This pollution took many forms and it was not easy to break. A simple confession did not produce the satisfaction and freshness of the Spirit that I sought. As one pilgrim to another the polluted heart can be cleansed and the fresh spirit enjoyed again. Glory!

Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are directed by the Lord and he delighted in his ways, though you fall you shall not be utterly cast down for the Lord upholds you in his hand. I have been young and now I am old and yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor their seed begging bread.”

Thank you God for cleaning the hearts pollution.
